Julia counted by 5's up to 65 yesterday and wrote the numbers on a white board. Yes, she had support, but she stayed focused and on task for the whole exercise. If this is our diet, I will give up cheese forever! What is a fine piece of gouda compared to math!?

I barely eat cheese in the first place, except as part of a meal, and then only tasty cheese (the homebrand type). I do like parmesan and feta, though.

Your taste in cheese is so very, very fine. Papa likes Swiss cheeses and other things.

And 13 5s is 65. I never expected children in the second grade would know their 13 times table, but with 5s you can go on forever.

It's good to see how people see numbers in a line. Some people have a more spatial way of going about this. I think if it goes on Julia may be doing maths for fun. Have been reading about time-space synthenasia.

And in terms of time, 65 is an hour and 5 minutes.

A great story from the BBC about maths, time and space.
